Utility as concept, drawing on the history of functional ceramics while expanding its possibilities.

The Lamp Chair Coatrack Planter is a multi-functional ceramic sculpture, integrating seating, lighting, storage, and greenery. Its raw clay seat is designed to conform naturally to the body, offering a tactile, earthy finish. A striking blue crackle glaze runs throughout the piece, with golden-yellow hues emerging from the cracks, referencing the soft, warm light that illuminates the chair from overhead—ideal for reading. Organic, tree limb-like structures extend upward to serve as a coat rack, while a rabbit’s foot fern thrives in the integrated planter, with a concealed water-catching tray beneath to capture excess moisture. Despite its size, the piece is light enough to be moved easily by two people and stands solidly on a stable, tripod formation.
The chair is accompanied by a complementary footstool with a marbled, raw clay surface, designed to perfectly support a seated position by compensating for the chair’s higher elevation, completing the experience with both comfort and functionality.

This video showcases the functional elegance of the piece: the ashtray fits seamlessly into its custom cubby, while keys hang conveniently from hooks on the side. The golden finish of both the ashtray and the “foot-claws” at the base ties visually to the gilded frame of the Pottery Painting, creating a cohesive dialogue between the works.

Notice the shadow cast on the wall, revealing a subtle facial profile that adds a human presence to the piece.
